I think one of the best parts of the holiday season is breakfast. Breakfast is something that’s pretty routine for most people. Sometimes it’s rushed. Sometimes it’s a piece of fruit. Sometimes it gets skipped altogether. But special occasions like Christmas and New Years (and all those days in between the two) give us the best excuse to go all out for breakfast, and make something special like this panettone French toast with orange cream.
The inspiration for this dish came from a family tradition we have of making wassail, a traditional warm spiced cider punch from England. While hot chocolate is probably the most common winter drink, this cider is a whole new kind of cozy. It’s made with apple cider, three other fruit juices, and lots of cinnamon sticks. As it cooks, the flavors blend and the whole kitchen begins to smell of warm spice.
Simple and delicious roasted beet salad with a really flavorful black garlic & orange vinaigrette. The perfect side dish to any meal.
